Public Education to Raise Environmental Awareness

Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) can play a key role in raising environmental awareness. In South Eastern Europe (SEE) these activities are especially important and have a high chance for success for two main reasons. Firstly, for most people in the region, and especially those in transitional or poor communities, their environmental priorities lie in protecting the place where they live and the sustainable management of their resources. Secondly, the development of the region’s environmental policies and regulations
during the past decade are a direct result of the public’s call for a safer and cleaner environment.
