Strengthening the capacity of non-State actors to promote women’s rights and gender equality in the Mediterranean countries

The European Commission (EC) is seeking proposals under the programme ‘Investing in People’, a thematic programme committed to poverty reduction worldwide. As part of the EC development cooperation, it promotes a broad approach to human and social development, including women’s rights and gender equality.

Funding opportunities: This call accompanies the efforts undertaken and commitments made by Euro-Mediterranean States through the Framework for Action on Strengthening the Role of Women in Society agreed at the Ministerial Conference held in Istanbul in 2006. It is launched on the eve of the follow-up Ministerial Conference in Marrakech on 11-12 November 2009. This Call is intended to support projects contributing to awareness-raising, promotion and implementation of the rights recognised in the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and the Istanbul Framework for Action, and will support activities countering gender stereotyping and promoting the participation of women in peace processes and local development decision-making.

Where: Actions must take place in one or more of the following countries and territories:
Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Occupied Palestinian
Territory, Syria, Tunisia. A limited part of the activities may take place in EU countries, or in neighbouring countries, notably Iran, Iraq and Yemen.

Who can apply: Non-state actors and local authorities

Size of grants: Between EUR 200 000 and EUR 800 000 – maximum 80% of eligible costs

Action duration: Between 12 and 36 months
