History : 

Jessor is a non-governmental and non-profit organization governed by a professional and an independent board of Directors elected by the general assembly. Jesoor is registered by the Palestinian Ministry of Interior

Vision: 

To develop a trans-cultural model of the “right to health” approach and commitment to social justice and change in Palestine and the region, by examining health in the context of people’s life –moving beyond the individualistic approach to include extended family, social, cultural, political, religious and economic conditions. The model is based on analyzing the links between health and human rights focusing on the community approach and development. Such a model will be developed through capacity building, contextual research studies, professional advancement, professional credentialing, and the ability to act as an ethical change agents in a constantly changing environment by empowering family and community initiatives in alliance with existing community resources.

Mission: 

Jesoor would be distinguished for its leading position in the region as an organization of excellence in capacity building, professional practice, contextual research, and of its critical analysis of the linkage between mental health and human rights. Jesoor will be proactive and innovative in efforts to alleviate inequalities in health, making family empowerment more accessible and culturally acceptable while providing each individual with dignified service. We will gain distinction for our critical analysis of the contextual linkage between health and human rights, and contribute creatively to the local, regional and global right to health approach movement and prevention of torture.

We will achieve this by basing health practice and research on the philosophy of right to health approaches and the holistic framework of people’s rights where our focus is not only on the mind, body and spirit, but also on the context were individuals live

Objectives: 

-Promoting innovative contextual research studies and capacity building and ensure that health services are based on the principles of justice, humanity and respect of human rights
- Raise family and community awareness about the need to be treated with respect and dignity.
- Contribute to the creation of a generation of children raised in a culture of respect for democracy, by fostering healthy child-parent relationships and feelings of security and self-esteem.
- Develop strategic alliances and joint work with local, regional and international institutions concerned with justice and peace to promote community-based right to health approaches.
- Analyze the contextual application of health measurement tools used globally to measure the quality of life, trauma, and symptoms of PTSD, and other anxiety disorders.
- Prevent torture and human rights abuse by culturally sensitive means.

The Palestinian Friendship Center for Development (PFCD) is a non-profit, non-partisan and national-based organization, whose mission is to create a lasting and positive change in the lives of Palestinians. Since its establishment in 1996, PFCD has been serving the Palestinian society by using informal education, communication and social services to develop various community initiatives.

PFCD works mainly to improve conditions related to children and youth, with special focus on females to engage them to play an active and healthy role within the society. Thus, PFCD conducts specific programs to fulfill their needs, develop their capacity and ensure their sanity integration in their community.

* Vision and values

PFCD's vision is based on integrating its beneficiaries’ engagement in the development process that allows them to be a vital component in creating development and benefiting from. Therefore, PFCD’ goals based on three main values:

1. Strengthening Participation and Governance
Promote democratic governance based on pluralism, tolerance and non-violence values, and allow all society’s components to participate in the national development process without discrimination to their ages, beliefs or sex.

2. Ensuring access to information and life-learning
Improve information access and use of different communication tools to create constructive dialogue among community members and exchange of knowledge in issues that address their concerns and interests.

3. Developing initiatives and effective skills acquisition
Support community initiatives to improve economic, social and cultural conditions. In addition to carry out capacity building activities, that can be pedagogically or recreationally oriented, in order to build innovative and skilled generations.

Mission: 

* PFCD Core Programs

PFCD’s core programs consist of initiatives and projects that respond to arousing needs. PFCD’s work represents a dynamic, responsive, and innovative set of opportunities for Palestinian community to achieve positive change and development.

The core programs are:

- Social and Community Service Program
Taking into our consideration the unprecedented poverty and unemployment rate, PFCD decided to adapt this program. The program aims to contributing to the promotion and improvement of the social and community service through the civic engagement. The main elements of this program are serving the local Palestinian community in enduring immense hardship and suffering, sharing in developing the community’s physical and human resources, and providing different social support services and health awareness for children and their families.

- Education and Advocacy Program
An integral part of PFCD’ vision is to build the capacities of youth in general and females in particular. The program aims to contributing to the promotion and improvement of education, civic education, human rights and public awareness. Hence, this program has been developed to provide young generation with experience, proper training and skills as the basis to place them in an effective advocacy citizen rights and democratic values. In addition, enhance their educational and professional abilities to play an active role in the development of the Palestinian community.

- Communication and Cultural Program
PFCD’s commitment to access to information as key motor of promoting its goals reflects its vision in creating a public dialogue. The program aims to contributing to the promotion and improvement of communication, dialog and culture. Therefore, the program offers different means of communication for children and youth to interact positively in their society. It provides access to remote locations and promotes cultural identity, as well as expresses their perspectives of life.

- Information & Research (*Future Program)
PFCD is keen to capitalize its long track experience in serving the Palestinian society and offering public insights and information on various community policies. The program aims to contributing to the promotion and improvement of information dissemination and research with regard to youth and teenagers. The ambition is to create a pole of research and analysis to fit the needs of public and private institutions and support the development process in the Palestinian territories. In this regard, PFCD is seeking, in the near future, to conduct researches, policy papers and focuses reports on several subjects, as well as provide analytical information toward policy makers and interested NGOs at the local and international level.
