MADA and DCAF hold workshop on access to information in Bethlehem

The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) and the Geneva Centre for Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) held a workshop for journalists on the right of access to information at Maan News Agency headquarters in Bethlehem, on Thursday 24 January 2012.

New study for MADA center recommends preparing Media Basic Law

The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) released a legal study entitled "Legal Regulations of Media Freedom in Palestine", prepared by legal advisor Rashad Tawam under the supervision of lawyer Ahmed Nasra. This study was funded by the UNESCO office in Ramallah.

The study sheds light on the legal environment relating to and affecting media freedoms in the Palestinian territories, its impact on restricting media work, and if or how these regulations meet international standards.

The NGO Development Center (NDC) is an innovative Palestinian non-profit organization that empowers Palestinian NGOs to better provide vital services to Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza, especially the poor and marginalized. Conceived in partnership with leading Palestinian NGOs, unions and networks, NDC mobilizes donor funding to deliver a unique combination of direct grants and capacity building programs that enhance the effectiveness, self-reliance and sustainability of Palestinian NGOs. NDC advocates greater NGO transparency and accountability through the adoption of professional financial and management practices, and promotes sector-wide coordination and sharing of best practice experiences within its programs.
 
NDC is now implementing the Fourth Palestinian NGO Project (PNGO IV) and the Second Phase of the Human Rights & Good Governance Project (HR/GG). NDC intends to apply part of the grants for: The Upgrade and development of NDC’s Portals, Website, and GIS. NDC is currently managing the following portal and websites: 1) ndc.ps., 2) Masader.ps, 3) Humanrights.ps.  
 
Assignment Objective:
 
The objective of this assignment is developing and installing a Geographic Information System-GIS and upgrading the following portal and websites:
·         www.ndc.ps
·         www.masader.ps
·         www.humanrights.ps
 
This assignment includes upgrading Masader Portal and the human rights website from Drupal 5 and 6 to the latest stable version of Drupal, in addition to converting the NDC’s website to the same framework, keeping the current data as is with the same classifications, and adding new categories if required by NDC. It also involves unifying a new featured theme with dynamic slider for the portal and the websites.
 
 NDC now invites eligible IT Firms to indicate their interest in providing the services. Interested IT firms must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services. (CVs, Brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc.)
 
 
 
Qualifications of the Consultant:  
              
- Legally registered  entity
- Firm’s profile should reflect experience in actual delivery of similar projects and experience in Drupal
- The  team should at least consist of:
o   Experienced team leader (holding graduate degree or equivalent, in a related field with at least 5 years of relevant experience).
o   Minimum two qualified key team members with at least 5 years of solid experience each in the relevant areas.

The IT firm will be selected in accordance with the procedures set out in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers (May 2004, Revised October 2006 and May 2010) based on Consultant Qualification Selection (CQS) method.

Phone, Internet access in West Bank, Gaza cut

A cyber attack has crippled he main phone network in the West Bank and Gaza and cut access to the Internet.
Mashour Abou Daqqa, the Palestinian telecoms minister, said the disruptions, which began Tuesday morning, came from various sources around the world, but had no detailed information. He said hackers used IP servers in Germany, China, and Slovenia to launch the attack.

MADA organizes 2 freedom of expression workshops in Al-Aqsa and Al-Najah universities

Development and Communication Officer

The Arab Thought Forum is a non-profit, community rights-based organization is recruiting
the services of a highly qualified professional to apply for vacant position as Development and
Communication Officer based in its Jerusalem office.

Qualification and skills:
-Degree in Development, management, fundraising, public relations, communication or other
related specialization.
-Minimum 5 years experienced as fundraiser with proven track record of establishing successful
innovative fundraising schemes.
-Knowledge of development issues generally and in Palestine specifically, familiarity with the important role of Non Governmental Organizations.
-Excellent communication skills in written and spoken Arabic and English.
-Track record and commitment to working in a results-oriented environment covering; management,
monitoring and evaluation, financial reporting.
-Ability and success in public relations, contacts, and encouraging supporters.
-Advanced computer skills and experience of using donor databases and other office software
packages.
-Well organized, systematic, enthusiasm, attentive to details, initiative and good judgments, accountability and administrative competence.
-Able to travel in the West Bank and Jerusalem

Responsibilities:
-Identify potential donors, coordinate donors’ activities, and building fundraising database.
-Initiate contacts with the donors, prepare and submit proposals to donors.
-Follow-up the progress of the projects and the related payments as per contracts.
-Develop, implement and monitor an information and communication strategy, along with the
yearly work plan and annual budgets.
-Supervise the development and periodic production, both in published and electronic forms of
high quality public information tools including the ATF website, annual reports, articles, press
releases, advertisements, and other publications to promote the Institution’s activities, projects
and programs.
-Prepare background communication and promotional materials for briefings donors and other
special interest groups. .
-Provide regular standardized monthly and annual reports and updates as required by both the
donors and the Institution’s management to communicate new prospects, fund raising visits,
proposals submitted, and income generated.

MADA holds two workshops on freedom of expression legislation in Tulkarem and Jabalia

The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) held two workshops concerning international and local legislation on freedom of expression. The workshops were conducted yesterday, 26 June 2011, in Tulkarem city in the West Bank, and Jabalia city in the Gaza Strip.

MADA center publishes the first issue of its new magazine “MADA El-E’lam”

Ramallah- 27 June 2011: The Palestinian Centre for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) published today the first issue of "MADA El-E’lam"
magazine - the first specialized magazine on media affairs in Palestine -which will be released every two months and will contribute to filling the information vacuum Palestinian media has suffered in the past decades.
